Walter Mossberg in the June 2 Wall Street Journal's Personal Technology section goes off on wireless phone carriers liking them to "Soviet ministries, because they are reminiscent of the Communist bureaucraces in Russia that stood athwart the free market". He goes on to say that "the U.S. carriers are exercising far too much control over the flow of new technology into users' hands."

Could not agree more. It is worth the read.

I would agree too. It seems that the carriers are controlling what we can and can't use in regards to the features of our handsets. Verizon's implementation of Bluetooth is a prime example. :roll:

And because the only reliable signal I get out here is Verizon's I'm held hostage.

I agree with both of you. These monster telcom companies remind me of IBM hanging on to the mainframe for dear life and almost got left out of the whole party because of it. Just as with the dinosaurs, they didnt see the end coming :grinning devil:
