This phone looks pretty darn good so if your interested check out the spec page. Will we see it here in North America? It doesn't look like it so far.<br /><br /><img src="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/images/tech_specs_xphoneiim.jpg" alt="User submitted image" title="User submitted image"/>

From it's looks/spec, it appears that its just a rebranded imate SP3i.

Ya, pretty much. It would be nice if a carrier released this phone in North America. I don't understand why they haven't jumped on phones like this one. They're pushing mobile music, but not offering what is clearly a great music phone, IMHO. :?

It is already released in Asia. The SIM unlocked version is available from this website at US$500. http://www.doml.com/product.asp?id=1975

now how is this different from the Audiovox SMT 5600? I mean it's the same HTC rebranded, rebranded again...

If anyone wants to come out with something new start up-ing the display to QVGA - that cna be done without retooling the OS.

Not exactly: the 'rebranded imate SP3i' is the X phone II. It might be the 'rebranded updated-for-media SP3i'. Hence the m at the end of the name.

And then there's the question of who is doing the rebranding, since both O2 and imate are using the same HTC manufacturer.

Looks like it has a better joystick than the 5600 to me.

AFAIK, it's slightly different to the SMT5600. I'm still waiting for it to surface in tech stores here, so once I see it, I'll let you all know. :)

just a little different. It will be the same size and shape as the SP3i, but with a couple more buttons. :)

So anyone have any leads on when we can start expecting devices to come out with higher resolution - QVGA? I haven't seen anything from Orange lately and last I read (here of course) they were testing a QVGA display smartphone - the C550 I think???

The C550 was rumored to be released in May, but the latest rumor has it as July 11th. It does have a QVGA screen, which would ROCK!

It's certainly the one I am waiting for. 8)

Well, to be fair, it is going to be my first smartphone. I was going to get a C500 when I heard about the C550. I'm not wanting to upgrade every 6 months, so surely it's best waiting to get the right device. My current phone can struggle on a bit longer......

I kept my MPx220 for a whole 7 months

I was going to pop for the Audiovox but when Cingular originally listed it - same phone that ATT offered for $150 more... that put me off. Plus, I really wanted to know more about the C550 - like the release date. If it is coming around that soon - for real - I'm going to hold and wait to see it released.
As long as Expansys isn't the only place you can get it - they are way unreasonable with their prices...

The C550 will be released on the Orange network. It might take a little time before we see unbranded versions floating around. So far there has been no leaks about a Qtek/i-mate version of this phone. :(

You know, now that you've spoken about QVGA screens, the moboDA 3360 (http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/index.php?action=expand,40497&amp;/introducing_the_moboda_3360.htm), although most definitely a Pocket PC, has a QVGA screen with a Smartphone-style form factor. Here's where the concept of Pocket PC and Smartphone is blurred, and the idea of convergence appears to be on track.

I've been looking at those pictures all day (over at PPCT). It's a really nice device, but I think it's a little wide for me. I've really gotten use to the C500 footprint, and it's going to be hard to switch away from it.

Agreed. I'm looking for something very, very small.
