This is start in the right direction, they can now verify that you have mpx220 and give you that bluetooth headset that they all promised! Rom update tool online is coming very soon!

Moto had a promotion (http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=7452) when it launched the MPx220. The first 1000 to register will get a free BT headset. ;-)

Any word on the Update Release date? For the amount of time we have had to wait for this update - Cingular/Moto better give us MS Mobile 5.

If they come back and only fix the volume problems - then I am sorry Cingular/Moto is lame...5 months for what?

Come on I want the update already...

don't hold your breath waiting on MS Mobile 5. Cingular/Moto have their hands full dealing with the MPx220 problems...

Hey....Let him dream.......

Not too sure if it would be a dream or a nightmare. Since having the 220, I'm not too sure if I really want to have a new untested phone, with new untested software, i.e. Windows Mobile 5. Wait, that was an unfair statement... of all companies, I know MS must have tested the @#%^ out of their new code.

I'm just not sure where to get it for an unbranded unlocked phone.

I would avoid the updates floating around on the Internet.

Amen!

If you look through those threads you will see folks are having different results (success/failures) along with reporting different 'features'.

Maybe this bodes well for an 'Official' update for Cingular soon.....

i believe most of the people having problems are trying to combine different components from each ROM - for example using the Cingular branding files, with the ATT oem file (which is the ROM upgrade) - and/or are having probelms because they're using the wrong updater, or they're having USB modem issues.

the ATT & the Asian ROMs are stable and do offer some improvements (though i'm not sure how they were leaked). i've tried them both but went back to the Cingular 1.30 version.

if you don't know what you're doing when you flash your phone, then by all means don't do it!!

Well my Mpx220 is now officially sold on ebay. I won't have the pleasure of trying this out 8)

if the Cingular ROM doesn't significantly improve the volume, i'll bite the bullet and get a 5600 or the sp3-i.

i can certainly understand why you made the move. and yes, i'm jealous that you have a SMT5600 now!

I know how you feel! I was hating the 5600 love fest going on here when I was just looking on!!

I got rid of the 5600 in favor of the 220 about 3 months ago.

Main reason; I prefer flip phones and I found the 5600 picked up all kinds of background noise on the microphone. (Just part of being a bar phone I guess).

I found the 5600 to be more well built than the 220 with a better camera; I don't really care much about the camera so not a big deal.

I like the 220's caller ID application better than the 5600 but the 5600 has a better window's media player.

All in all, I'm happier with the 220; I have had no problems with audio volumes as others have. The ring tones were a bit low but I simply modified the files to make them louder and re-loaded on the phone. I find the ear piece volume to be loud - usually have it set at about 75%.

Again - just a preference..I like flip phones.......

Moto must still be putting this upgrade through their obviously rigorous testing and QA.

it amazes me that these new ROMs appear via the online updater but there's no public announcement of their existence... moto must be releasing the ROMs and reading the forums to uncover issues and/or validate the issues they've identified. i feel like i've been here before (like with ROM .325 and .342)... :drinking:

i must admit, however, that [in my humble opinion] earpiece volume (and bluetooth volume) with the 1.43 Cingular & ATT ROM versions is on par with the 1.40 Asian ROM. i feel that the volume using the 1.40 Asian ROM is better than the 1.39 Cingular/ATT ROM. on the other hand, the inconsistent checking of email (vs. the "every 30 mins" i selected) is still present. i'll probably stay with 1.43 Cingular for now.

(man, i hope i don't fry my phone with all this ROM flashing!)

I think you have tested more ROMs than Moto EVER has!

you're probably right... however, unlike Mr Moto, i ALSO test and confirm that the dang thing still works as a CELL PHONE!!! i sense Mr Moto ocasssionally gets his head so far up his be-hind, that he forgets to confirm the MPx220's cell phone capabilities. then again, if the head [and the MPx220] is far up the be-hind there's no secondary noise to compete with earpiece volume.

"...bartender, i'll have 2 of those please..." :drinking: :drinking:

Ok, stupid question but I have to ask. Did the cingular ROM come out? Did I miss it? I got the first email saying it was coming but nothing since. Please let me know if I missed out. This low volume thing is driving me crazy!!

Not yet that I'm aware of.

...using the online updater, one can access the latest ROM that Mr Moto has on its server. there's banter/debate over whether this is an official ROM vs a beta. Considering they've gone from version 1.39 to 1.43 in the last 10 days, i'd say it's a beta ROM...that is, until you receive official notification from Mr Moto of Cingular.
