I would like to add few more tidbits to the article. The original Smartphone version 2002, codenamed <i>Stinger</i> was based on Windows CE 3.0. Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition for Smartphone is based on Windows CE 4.21. And the next Smartphone release will have its roots in Windows CE 5.0.

Slightly OT:

There was an article in one of the Vancouver papers on Sunday about a Canadian girl named Cathy Kerr that moved to Redmond to work for guess who. In the accompanying picture, she was holding a PPCPE and the wallpaper on her computer said Windows CE 5.0.
