SIM from Verizon t61c

Ok, i want to get either an mpx220 or smt5600, i am looking into all my options, and have been told that i can take any SIM card and put it in either of them (say i bought one off of ebay) and it will work... well, i find this hard to believe with the way the carriers are these days, especially verizon. please explain how this works and if i can steal the SIM out of my almost dead T61c for either of those two smartphones.

It won't work with VZW because they don't use SIM cards, nor do any of the CDMA carriers in the US.

As for GSM carriers, yes it should work. Perhaps someone else wants to explain in depth how the whole system operates. In a nutshell the SIM just identifies which carrier and account the phone should use.
