What have you been waiting for? ;) I stopped using PIE the day I installed Opera and have never gone back, except when I accidentally hit the "i" button on my i600. (I wonder if there's a way to remap that thing.)

I agree, it's much, much better than IE :)

Has anyone noticed that this release is slightly slower than the previous version?

There are a couple of secure websites that I still can't log onto though :x

is there a way to make it the default browser?

There has to be, I'm just not knowledgeable enough to know how. Papyrus opens when you choose the calendar icon, so there must be a way to map Opera as well.

I posted on their forum too, there must be a way to do it.

I think I had tried the TP1, but didn't like it and then missed the TP2 boat. Anyway I am amazed by the speed. And multiple windows. :-)

BUT...today when I tried to rely on Opera, pIE bailed me out. Wanted to get the address for a college (www.naz.edu) from its website. And since the site had Javascript animations, Opera goofed up on the rendering and I could not click on the link I wanted or any for that matter. :-( Whereas pIE showed me the page, with clickable links. :?

Changing HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\http\Shell\Open\Command

from iexplore.exe %1
to opera.exe %1

Doesn't seem to work (even with reboot). The mail app still uses PIE to open links.

I'm having zero success getting this to work with T-Mobile and their lame-o proxy server. PIE works fine and so do my own custom net apps.

If someone is feeling really nice they could compare the speed of Opera WITHOUT the accelerator option to PIE. The accelerator requires a paid subscription at some point.

With nothing but time on my hands I changed every iexplore.exe to opera.exe. I finally found the key (there are a bunch of them) that a link uses to open PIE but when changed to the location \Storage Card\... it come back with an error 'Can't find Storage or on of it's components' so it cant see past the space it seems. Even if I were to install it on the phone it would go to Program Files and there we have another space in the name (if that is in fact the problem).

Figured out why the links are not working. User error! I didn't know that the left-right keys move between clickable links. And up-down moves you up and down the page. On pIE, the up-down keys to take you thru the clickable links.

But pIE (at least to me) renders the page better than Opera.

Hmm...paid subscription for the accelerator. I don't think I have spare change.

Once you disable the accelerator. The performance seems to be the same for Opera and pIE. The text on the page loads in pretty much the same time. It is the graphics that take the most time. And that is where the Opera accelerators help.

Not only that, I like the Opera, progress bar at the bottom. That gives the image count and progress. That definitely gives Opera users the "perception" of faster downloads. pIE with its silly wavvy Windows logo does nothing to help us. ;-)

Maybe creating a shortcut on the phone to opera.exe and pointing the key at that might work

For me Opera renders pages faster than PIE almost all the time, even with the accelerator turned off. Especially with larger pages. Lots of larger pages time out with PIE where Opera has no trouble. I usually have the accelerator off because I can't connect to yahoo with it on.

The accelerator fee isn't too bad. If you get a year's subscription I think it ends up being $1.50/month. I don't know if I'll bother getting it but if I payed per byte for my internet service I would definitely get it.

I guess Europe it will definitely be popular.

On my Cingular MPx220, Opera definitely is much faster at loading and rendering large pages. Try visiting something with a ton of text and complex layout, like http://www.instapundit.com. Opera takes about seven seconds till the first display after first launching Opera (so no cache effects). This includes name resolution time. PIE takes about 20, but the browser isn't usable for several more seconds while it renders.

This is with the mobile accelerator off. I don't like sending my data through Opera's proxy server all that much.

On some sites, such as Engadget, PIE stops and asks me to press OK to keep loading the page. There's no other option presented. I have NO idea why it's asking me to do that. It's very annoying.

The only reason I use PIE now is because PIE caches HTTP authorization where Opera doesn't. I don't want to re-enter login information every time I restart my browser.
