The tri-band (850/1800/1900 MHz) SMT 5600 operates exclusively in Canada on the Rogers Wireless GSM/GPRS network, the largest integrated wireless voice and data network in Canada, providing users with global roaming capabilities around the world. ... Rogers Wireless is offering the Audiovox SMT 5600 starting today for $299.99 after rebates with a three-year voice and data service contract. More information is available at <a href="http://www.rogers.com/smt5600">www.rogers.com/smt5600.</a>"</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/images/Temporale-20050324-RogersLogo.gif" alt="User submitted image" title="User submitted image"/> <br /><br />You can pick up the phone for $565 without a contract, which seems a little pricey to me. Regardless, it's great to see that Canada finally has a Windows Mobile Smartphone being offered directly from a carrier. :D

you lucky Kanuks you... sigh. Well here is to hoping that Cingular will get their act together soon for offering something outside of the mpx220 real soon. I'm thinking about baililng on T-Mo - too much going on there that leaves me wondering where they are going.

Yeah I'm still waiting for Cingular to offer this phone. Not that I would ever give up my MPx220 of course. :worried:

Isn't the US using 900? So that would mean there are 2 versions of the SMT5600. Or am I totally off my rocker?

Your rocker is ajar. 850 is the "new" GSM frequency that is being deployed in North America. Has better coverge in buildings and below ground...

Ah, Ok. So 900 is used in Europe then, right? I can never keep these things straight.

Europe is 900/1800. NA is 800/1900 (with the 800MHz frequency sometimes confusingly called "GSM 850").

I keep checking the Cingular page and SmartphoneToughts every few days hoping see news that Cingular has finally added the 5600 to their lineup. Here's hoping they do it soon.

Thanks. Although, I'm sure I will forget this again in a couple days. It's just one of those things that I can't seem to keep in my brain.

If you see anything on the Cingular website, be sure to drop by and submit the news to us! Of course, if we hear anything, it will be front and center on the home page for all to see. :D
