This update, I believe, is for the UK edition, the 900MHz based version of SP3i. It updates the ROM from 1.1.33.21 to 1.2.33.21. The release notes does not mention Windows Media Player 10 update.

Don't forget to backup the data on your Smartphone before installing this update. Following are the updates in this release, as per the Club i-mate web site:
• With the wired headset, you can now reject an incoming call by pressing and holding the "answer" button for 2 seconds
• With the wired headset, you can now answer a call that is waiting whilst you are in another call by tapping the "answer" button
• Polyphonic MIDI ringtones are now supported <!>

Corrections:
• The Gaming API (GAPI) problem of screen freeze has been fixed
• The voice and data call handling software has been updated to improve stability
• The camera auto-exposure has been corrected so that the picture will not "white-out" in bright conditions
• T9 improvements for Activesync email, Internet Explorer and the symbol table
• T9 Portuguese included by default in the operating system
• Improved cursor control and multikey press
• There are improvements in menu translations for Italian, Turkish, French and Portuguese users
• USSD services have been upgraded

Overall I don't think there is anything significant. I was eagerly waiting for the upgrade hoping that i-mate will provide the Windows Media Player 10. Now I am disappointed with i-mate. :(

This update is definitely for the 900/1800/1900 version of this phone. My SP3i is the 850/1800/1900 version and its firmware version is 2.0.33.31. My phone does have Windows Media Player 10. I thought all of the SP3i's had this, must only be on the U.S. version though.

mpaquette,

Where did you get your phone from?

You are right, only the US Version has WMP10.

Thanks for pointing the version number for the US version. It definitely means that this update is for the UK/900Mhz version ONLY.

Hi!

I am trying to find the SP3i ROM update on the site but it seems to have disappeared!
(A page appears with the heading of Device upgrades but there is no downloadable link)

Can someone who has the update e-mail it to me:
sifaan(at)gmail.com

Thanks!
Sifaan

Mike Temporale,

I got my phone from the US Expansys site. I picked it up a couple of months back when they were a bit cheaper than they are right now. I believe that if you get it from the UK Expansys site it's the 900/1800/1900 version, but on the US Expansys site it's the 850/1800/1900 version. There is a sticker on the box of my phone that has the IMEI number (I thinK) and something that basically says SP3i, U.S. Worldwide phone.

Mike, I can confirm this as well. I bought mine from expansys us through ebay as a refurb unit for much less than the new price. The device is listed to include the 850 band and comes with WMP10. I have the same Operator version as mpaquette.

Interesting. I didn't realize any other phones had WMP10 on them. Nice! 8)

It's still there. ;-)

On the Club i-mate site ->Support -> Select Device Support link for SP3i
At the bottom of the Device Support for SP3i page, click on the link marked "Operating System Upgrade and Device Customisations". And then click on the appropriate language package link. :-)

You're in luck, i-mate has just launched in North America. It should make these phones a little easier and cheaper to get your hands on. :)

Has anyone heard pricing or availability on these from a US supplier? I want to get my girfriend one of thes and was just going to go with Expansys again until I saw this announcement.

There has been no mention of price, yet. I would expect more details in the coming week or so. Just a guess. :)
