Previously Samsung was offering only CDMA phones powered by Windows Mobile so they were usable only in USA. This time both USA and EU and also other areas will be able to enjoy Samsung's GSM based and Microsoft powered phones! Release date for the new smartphone (i300) and the new Pocket PC phones is the same: third quarter 2005."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/images/Temporale-20050314-Samsungi300VSc500.jpg" alt="User submitted image" title="User submitted image"/> <br /><br />msmobiles.com has posted a 22 picture review of Samsungs new i300 Smartphone. While I expected the i300 to be larger than the C500, I didn't expect it to be so close in size. It appears that the i300 will be running the next version of Windows Mobile (codenamed Magneto), and it will use TransFlash memory cards. The music player seen in all the pictures is Samsung's own creation and is reported to support 3D sound. If you forget the TransFlash thing, and loose the proprietary connectors, you got one cool looking and sounding Smartphone! 8)

I can't believe I'm liking the look of this thing! Samsung? Good looking phone? Features I would actually want? Something is wrong. Excuse my while I go breath into a paper bag.

I'm not quite sold on the looks (I prefer my Typhoon) but the featureset is pretty compelling.
Interesting that the "Samsung Music Player" appears to be a lightly rebadged version of WMP10.
Is it just an optical illusion or does the screen (QVGA mmm) look smaller than the Typhoon?
Now that storage is catching up, the biggest factor in how successful this will be as a convergent device is batterly life IMO. My Rio Carbon gets close to 20 hours battery life :)

Yes, it is smaller than in the Typhoon - similarly like Motorola MPx220 that also has smaller display than Typhoon.
However harddisk and QVGA display make up for it.

I agree, this deserves a serious look.

That's a shame. I'm sure they could have found a little more room for a slightly bigger display. Ah well, It's not like it's a reason to not get one. I'm sure you won't even notice the smaller screen after a little while. 8)

After dealing with the tiny display on my MPx220. That one seems huge to me.

Any word on the RAM/ROM in the device?
I would assume 64 MB ROM like the MPx220 and Typhoon, but it would be nice if Magneto-generation devices would step up to 48 or 64 MB of RAM.

Amen to that!

Isnt 240x320 big? The mpx220 is 176 by 220, so the screen has to be bigger right?

But the physical dimensions of the screen are less. The resolution supported by that display may be much higher.
