Podcasts are typically exposed through an XML file (some, like DotNetRocks [an excellent podcast, I especially like the intro to episode #100] require you to use a download tool like BitTorrent). Let’s assume that you’re wanting to listen to my Podcast (and why on earth wouldn’t you?) – Here’s what you will need to sync the Podcast to your Smartphone."</i><br /><br />Here is a guide for those of you interested in Podcasting. I have never tried this myself. Podcasting has always looked to me to be a big pain to set up and use. Am I wrong? Is it worth the trouble it appears to be?

I mostly use an iPod for music....mostly. I just started getting into the Podcating thing and while it's now a little hard to tell trash from treasure, there are a LOT of things out there that may be worth a good listen. The initial setup for a subscription can be kind of a pain, but once that's done it's done. Between the autosychronization of that playlist through either iTunes or WMP and the auto-check and download feature of iPodder or similar software it's really a breeze.

By the way I'm sure you have a lot of cross-readers here from /., so this is probably no surprise but SciFi.com has a podcast feed for the new Battlestar Galactica show that is going to give you director's commentary for new episodes starting with this past weeks. It's really interesting and sort of like getting a DVD-only feature now for free. :)

Very easy to get going, but I've yet to find anything worth even that easy effort... Interesting how you guys and your sister site (PPC Thoughts) are both talking about Podcasting today...

Conspiracy theories? Alien abductions? You be the judge...

I will wait for NPR.org to start Podcasting, maybe then I will consider it. Till then it is just a fancy name for downloadable media file that is an audio file containing news/report/interview.

:worried: What? Who? I know nothing.

I've thought about doing some Podcasting... But I'm not about to do everything twice (type up a story, and then record an audio track for it too). So then the question becomes what content should be Audio and what should be Written. I like the idea that anyone, anywhere can read this site. You just need a web browser. It doesn't matter if that browser is embedded into your car, fridge, front door, phone, PDA, whatever. However, an Audio transmission means you need access to something with speakers, or a means to transfer the file to another device. :?
