It's called the Orange SPV C550 and early information indicates that it has a 1.3 megapixel camera, 240x320 262k TFT colour screen, 64MB memory, miniSD, Bluetooth, Video MMS for download and playback, and Java 2.0. If all this turns out to be true, this could be a really sweet phone. It looks to have the body from the C500, but the buttons and music features from the SDA Music. (Both the SDA Music and C500 can be seen together here.)

Sounds nice, but an essential upgrade, at least for the USA, would be to have it EDGE enabled. I don't really any significant changes from the SMT 5600 other than the camera upgrade. Pleae correct me if I am wrong. But I still think this could be a killer phone with EDGE.

Oh yeah, and an external miniSD slot.

I love that screen res - now if only Cingular would adopt it, I'd switch from T-mo in a heartbeat.. but alas, it will be months (if ever) before any of us (that means US) will see it - sigh...

I have to agree on the EDGE comment, but at this time I would be tickled pink if the US carriers would just get more aggressive in their offering of COOL PHONES.

Granted, EDGE would be would make it a perfect phone...but I's still love to get my hands on that phone.

Is it an HTC phone?

Pretty pathetic that US carriers probably won't have this phone. Maybe because Verizon and Cingular can't strip enough features out of it so we can use their lame picture sharing garbage toys junk trash that they can charge us for!

You cant blame the carriers.....there just simply is no market for a "candy bar smartphone". They are going with whats hot right now....flip phones and sliders.

It will have joystick, now that is cool. But looks like the buttons will be even smaller. :?

Love HTC! :)

Yeah sure, rub it in. Next you'll be saying it actually wont need to be hard reset every 3 months.

How did you guess? I have had it for more than 3 months now and haven't reset it once in the last 3 months. If it is any consolation for you, I did do it once, but it was my fault, I had filled up the internal memory (mails and programs) and it refused to boot. Which I have seen with other Smartphones also.

Too bad it has a scheduled release for May. I'd really like to see it running Magneto. Or maybe they will surprise us? Or maybe those of us in the US will be rewarded for always having to wait?

I'm not a big fan of candybar phones but I would buy this one for the better screen option. I just want a bit more internal memory.

Jerry secretly loves the MPx220. But is unable to admit his true feelings.

Betcha ten bucks it's running magneto. Needs to be to have QVGA display in a handset (not PDA) form factor and layout. Plus, HTC is too sharp to release such an otherwise trivial upgrade to the Typhoon series.

Actually, different resolutions was introduced with Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition. It's just that no one has taken advantage of it yet.

I'd get it just for the QVGA screen. Just think how much more web page you'll be able to see or how much more of that email msg you'll see.

BTW, tri-band or quad-band?

well, if they use the added resolution like the VGA PocketPC then, you really won't get any more information on the display, just more crisp letters, etc.

Well, I just hope that someone brings this out soon. O2 don't seem to have any MS Smartphones at the moment. I wonder when they will fill that gap in thier product line. Are SPV phones exclusively for Orange or can other carriers offer them?

The SPV Smartphones are ODM devices manufactured by Taiwan based HTC. And HTC in the past has licensed or re-branded the SPV base hardware to other vendors like i-mate, Audiovox and QTek.

So this model will also end up in the hands of many carriers and vendors, under different brandname and body color scheme. :-) Just like Orange SPV C500 was rebranded as i-mate SP3, Audiovox SMT5600 etc..etc...

Not that I'm aware of....

But what do you think if THIS is the model Cingular is going to release and NOT the Audiovox SMT5600???

Of course, I haven't heard any reports from the FCC yet either. :(

o dear sweet speculation... if Cingular got this instead of the Audiovox - dah-rool

Well it looks like Cingular went for the tried and true - or perhaps more cost effective route? Adopting the SMT5600 - sigh.

I'm going to switch from T-Mo to Cingular regardless to get the SMT5600. That is just one heck of a cool phone. And I have to admit that with the aquisition of ATT, Cingular really is leading the pack.

Anyone hear anything different/new?
