http://www.sandisk.com/retail/minisd.asp

One of the things I disliked when getting my Smartphone is that I had to adopt to yet another memory card format. I already use and have SD, MMC, CF, MS and MS Pro cards, and now I had to go out and get a miniSD card. Well... if that means my device can be smaller, off I go. The downside was that I wasn't able to locate anything bigger than a 256 MB miniSD card at that time. So using my Smartphone as my main music player was completely out of the question. But soon after I got my 256 MB card, 512 MB cards were everywhere, and recently 1 GB cards came out. And now, SanDisk is releasing theirs. Things are beginning to look good on the miniSD front!

I'm wondering if it will work in a mpx220 or if there is a 512 mb limit.

I don't think there is a hard limit. The interface and the OS would be what would cause that. The OS doesn't limit it and I'd be surprised if the interface Motorola used was anything special. I'd be more worried about the battery life on the 220, if you were going to follow Marlof's lead about using it as an MP3 player.

I think all these companies just hold off the introduction of higher capacity cards until the get enough cash from smaller size cards, i.e. 64MB, 128MB, 256MB. They should introduce 512MB at the beginning.

"512 MB cards were everywhere"

Where? I've been waiting for two months for my 512 from Buy.com. I think they're just as backordered as the 1GB.

I've had no problems getting a 512 card. Ecost and Amazon have them in stock - or did the other day. :)

Why would anyone hold off introducing higher capacity cards when there's competitive advantage to do so?

If anyone can prove that they're colluding to do it, they should send the FTC antitrust department an email... As for me, I've been waiting for the 1GB cards to hit the market. I know if I get the 512mb card, they'd release the 1 gigger the very next day.

As to the battery question, I think the smt5600 will work quite well as a music player. The battery life on mine is enough to run GPS navigation for quite a while.

Also, I've been able to rig a normal usb cable to charge the thing from a usb car plug as per advice via modaco's website. It's not easy soldering the 4and fifth pin together on a usb cable..

I wonder if SanDisk's failure rate goes up in proportion to capacity. :?
