The information passed to the media is that ASUSTek Ltd. has selected Radvision's 3G-324M Developer Toolkit for its upcoming line of 3G multifunction video phones, operating on the Microsoft’s Windows CE operating system and using an Intel chipset. The media release says that the choice of the Radvision 3G-324M developer solution, including the industry’s first implementation of the ITU’s recently ratified version 10 of the H.245 call control, will enable ASUSTeK to develop a new breed of 3G visual communication devices that offer the best in quality, functionality, low power consumption, minimal call setup time and support of advanced multimedia services."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/images/Temporale-20050215-AsusLogo.jpg" alt="User submitted image" title="User submitted image"/> <br /><br />Looks like ASUSTek is going to add a Windows Mobile device to their product line up! Most people know ASUSTek for their motherboards, or Pocket PCs. Looks like we'll be able to add 3G Smartphone to that list soon. :D We can't find any mention of this from ASUSTek, but there is a press release on the Radvision <a href="http://www.radvision.com/CorporateInformation/PressCenter/asustek.htm">website.</a>

I hope that it is a Windows Mobile device instead of a Windows CE device, as stated in the press release. Asus is a good company and I don't want them to get into proprietary OS mess.

Well, Asus was smart enough when they entered the Handheld arena to do it with Pocket PC and not just Windows CE. So I'm guessing that they will take the same approach with their 3G Smartphone. From what I'm reading, I think the Radvision toolkit is designed around Windows CE, and it is meant to help get the basic operation of the phone working. Then the vendor can drop whatever shell they want over top. Mind you, that's just a guess.
