<div class='os_post_top_link'><a href='http://www.petitiononline.com/spvc500' target='_blank'>http://www.petitiononline.com/spvc500</a><br /><br /></div>Since the release of the Orange SPV C500 there has been discussion about one particular issue: dust that is creeping in under the screen. I remember this issue vividly from my first iPAQ (3670) and my second Jornada (565) Pocket PCs, and I can tell you first hand that if dust gets out of control your device simply isn't that nice to look at. Now Steve Wooding wrote in, and asked to inform you of the following:<br /><br /><i>"Many customers of Orange UK have complained (as the supplier, UK law states that they are responsible for taking action) with little results, other than a referral to HTC, the manufacturer, for 'cleaning and servicing' the handset (with an attendant cost and a turnaround time of up to two weeks). So, there's now an <a href="http://www.petitiononline.com/spvc500">online petition</a> supporting a call for direct action from Orange UK to class this as a true fault (and not a 'cosmetic issue' as it's currently classed) and replace handsets under warranty, and to take action with HTC (the manufacturer) to have the flaw resolved. If you're an SPV user and a customer of Orange UK with the dust problem, take a look at the petition and, if you agree with the sentiment and call to action, please sign it too."</i>

My iPAQ 3650 was horrible with dust, however my current iPAQ 4150 is dust free, and never even had a hint of dust. Now, my Tanager had some dust problems, and my C500 has a couple specs f dust, but my Audiovox doesn't have a hint of dust. Maybe it is just luck that the Audiovox is dust free...
I think all of these devices are made by HTC? So it really concerns me that they have yet to solve the dust issue. :?

I've been hearing about this problem with the C500, since they are essentially the same phones, does the SMT 5600 have the same problem?

From what I can gather from another user forum (Modaco.com), there are SMT5600 users who've experienced similar dust ingress though there doesn't seem to be anywhere near as many reports as there is for the SPV C500.

UPDATE on the dust issue: ORANGE ARE TAKING FIRST STEPS!
As I've already described on modaco.com at http://www.modaco.com/index.php?showtopic=200716, Orange are now aksed me to find a really bad example of the dust problem via the various fora I post in and read.
If you have the dust problem, are a current SPV C500 owner and Orange UK customer, email me or send me a message via this forum with a description of how bad it is and I'll be in touch - Orange want you phone and will replace it via courier within 24 hours for free.

Sounds like Orange doesn't believe there is a problem. Does anyone inside Orange use the C500?
My C500 does have a dust problem. It's not too bad, and it's far from the stage of returning the phone - currently.
Please keep us posted on what steps Orange takes to fix this problem. :)

They replaced my phone via courier this morning - just swap out the SIM, memory card and battery (wiping the old phone's memory of course!). I'd forgotten how pleasing a totally clean and clear screen is and how much easier on the eye it is too! :D
I don't think it's that they don't believe it exisits - I reckon they didn't think it existed on this scale. Part of their problem will be that their current fault diagnosis system classes it as a 'cosmetic issue' and so it would never have been reported as a true fault. Basically their system prevented this fault ever being reported as one. 8O
They're looking at some of the DIY fixes that have been covered on the user fora and Orange's engineers are meeting with HTC next week (they do regularly) when this will be on the agenda.
I do have a direct phone number for the rep. I'm dealing with which I'll keep confidential as requested. Unless this doesn't get sorted..
