Sierra develops and markets a range of products, including wireless data modems for portable computers, embedded modules for original equipment manufacturers, rugged vehicle-mounted modems and mobile phones. In addition, Sierra has recently entered into the Smartphone market with its Voq product line."

The Voq Smartphone is a threat to PalmOne Treo, for which Sierra sells the wireless radio. So these goof-balls are suing Sierra for attempting to diversify their product line. While Sierra Wireless has not been served yet, they have issued a statement (PDF) that says there is no merit to this claim and will vigorously defend against the lawsuit. :way to go:

- Idea to diversify and make Smartphones: smart move.
- Voq design: bad move.

Should the company be blamed for a bad product? Somebody ought to be fired but the company should not be served a lawsuit for trying to improve the shareholders bottomline.

This is just crazy.
