Of the smartphone models, Linux-based devices are expected to perform well for the vendor in the smartphone market, said the division. Buoyed by good sales of the E680, A768i and A780 models, Motorola’s smartphone sales currently exceed 10% of its total sales in China, Motorola Taiwan cited. ...In addition, Motorola’s new Microsoft Windows-based smartphone, which is produced in-house, will be introduced to the market in the second half of this year, Motorola Taiwan noted."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/images/Motorola.jpg" alt="User submitted image" title="User submitted image"/> <br /><br />Is this a new Windows Mobile Smartphone? If it is, I am very surprised that we have not heard or seen anything about it. The MPx220 was leaked all over the internet for 8 months prior to it's release. Or Perhaps they are referring to the MPx Pocket PC Phone Edition?

But the MPx was not produced "in house" so that can't be it.

Could it be, could it be...

The "RazrBerry"?

The last thing I heard about that was that it was not going to be a Windows Mobile device. At least, that's what I think I heard. :?

This is what I'm going on / clinging to:

I think they're talking about the i930 for Nextel.

That's that iDen phone, right? If so, I guess us euros can stop salivating.

I think the i930 will actually be built by HTC. Plus a Moto Taiwan spokesperson would not be talking about anything iDEN (might not have even heard of it), and also I've been hearing that the i930 is on the verge of being scrapped anyway.

But really, why would anyone be surprised by a new smartphone? Of course there's something next after the MPx220. The real news would be if there wasn't, because that would signal Moto moving away from Windows Mobile, and we know that's not the case.

The timing seems right, too. Last October was when the MPx220 hit U.S. shelves, so one year later would make sense for its replacement. Anything longer would be quite a lapse.

And the no leaks thing? Moto really got burned by all the MPx220 leaks. That was pretty much the company's worst-kept secret ever. It was so bad that they never even bothered to formally announce the phone, because it was so widely leaked. That's pretty bad for a company to do that. It would make complete sense that they would tighten up this time around.

Well I don't know - the Moto stamp on things really doesn't bring visions of stable platform to my mind so I'm yawning at this.

If the RAZRBerry does see the light of day with a qwerty keyboard wouldn't that be more of a WMPE device? Since I am relly liking the SmartPhone as a product (not necessarily OS) I would like to see a nice jump in product design, features and QUALITY for the MPx230 or whatever.

Maybe the MPx100 is being reincarnated? That would be a nice complement to the Audiovox SMT5600.

The MPx100 specs included a 1.3MP camera and sported the same dual CPU technology as the MPx220.

they're reintroducing the MPx220 as the MPx221. it's now out of the testing stage so the 0 can be changed to version 1. they can technically consider it a new phone introduciton. (sorry i couldn't resist, yes this is a joke and yes i'm hating on Motorola!)

I don't think you can even use "Motorola" and "stable" in the same PARAGRAPH!

For those of you who don't remember the MPx100, strangely enough, Motorola still has the PDF specs on their web site:

http://www.motorola.com/mot/doc/1/1055_MotDoc.pdf

Update: and I see that it only had a 1.2MP camera w/Flash.

Probably just sloppy web site maintenance. What a surprise.

Thanks rbrome. Everytime you write a post in a discussion thread, it's enlightening. 8)

I am guessing that it is probably something with the "MobileOS- Who-Must-Not-Be-Named"!

i930 is dual network phone, it supports iDEN and GSM both.

But it has been delayed and its specs are out of date now.

Agreed, but as polished as I think the new OS will be, slapping it into a Moto might not be as wonderful as it should be. We shall see.

Just heard the Moto chief Ed Zander say on CNBC "...Moto will be releasing a black colored version of the RAZR at the Grammys..." and here is the statement that got my attention "...the RAZR style slim form factor will become synonymous with Motorola brand name.." and went on to say that they have exciting products based on the RAZR style in the pipeline that will be launching soon.

Edit: Biggest typo of my life....wrote BlackBerry in my original post instead of RAZR. :twak: Sorry folks!

This is good, after the triumphant perfection of the MPx's they are now going to destroy a new form factor. Can you tell I'm a bit irritated with Motorola??

makes you wonder if the folks who build the Blackberry will be building one for Motorola...or, maybe they've already built it.

on another note i was at one of my kids' basketball games, pulled out my phone to answer a call and the person behind me wanted to know how i liked the phone. i asked why and the person said they're an engineer with Motorola. (BIG, BIG MISTAKE!!!!) i was kind though...i told him this is very likely the last Motorola phone i will purchase. i also told him it took six phones before i had one that worked decently and that's just unacceptable!!! i asked if he wanted to know more and he replied "..No!..". another person hearing the conversation said..." I can tell you my horror story if you'd like to hear it...". i turned around to see how the Motorola guy would respond, but he got up and left the building...

Sorry folks! I made a big typo in my earlier post...wrote BlackBerry instead of RAZR :twak:

Last night the furnace stopped working in my apartment, and woke up frozen, decided to go to work to warm myself up, but the cold had done the damage, got back early, turned on the news and was delighted by the CNBC statement, and in my hazy state I published wrong statement.

It seems to me that Moto is trying to ride the RAZR buzz, just like the StarTac buzz several-several years ago.

Yeah I think you are right. I'd be so gun shy with them now though.
