Both of these devices are running Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition. Having Windows on your mobile phone might sound strange and it takes a while to get used to, but once you’ve figured out how it works, it actually makes a lot of sense. But let’s take a closer look at these two phones and help you decide which one, if either, best suits your needs."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/images/marlof-20041207-c5008390.jpg" alt="User submitted image" title="User submitted image"/><br /><br />If you'd like to see how two of the devices running Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edtion compare, check out the linked review. It exists of seperate reviews of the Mio 8390 and the Orange SPV C500, but in these parts the devices are compared to the "other" device. Since I'm personally happy with the screen on my SDA (similar to the C500), I'm quite curious to see the Mio 8390 in real life after reading the review. One of the comments they make is that the screen of the Mio is far superior to that of the C500!

Now that I finally have my hands on the Audiovox, and I've had my hands on the Mio 8390 (http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/articles.php?action=expand,5849), I can tell you that the 8390 has a better screen, hands down.

However, the Audiovox has a better list of features for my needs. :)

I agree with Mike - I just got my SMT 5600 last night after using a Mio 8390 for about six months, and the 8390's screen is definitely much better. The 8390 seems a little quicker as well, and the keys feel really nice (especially the Dpad). But the GPRS connectivity is extremely flaky and it's as big closed as the 5600 - that plus the 5600's Bluetooth was enough to push me to upgrade. We'll see if I feel the same way the reviewers do at the end of the week.

I wouldn't get a phone with an external antenna, so the C500 wins for me.

I haven't seen the screen on the 8390. But the MPx220 has an awesome screen. The only (major) downside is the 2" size as opposed to the almost standard 2.2" on the other Smartphones.
