I asked this in another post but no one has responded so I'll ask it dirrecltly in better hopes of getting an answer.

I ordered a SMT5600 online. It's locked for AT&T. I need to unlock it for use with T-Mobile.

What is the best way to do this? I have seen people discuss several ways and I'm not sure which is the best. If you have an unlocked one - how did you unlock it?

Thanks!

I bought an SMT5600 for use on T-Mobile. I used the unlock site mentioned above and it worked like a charm. I put in my T-Mobile sim card and was able to make calls without trouble. You will need to change a few T-Mobile settings for GPRS and MMS. I had to add the T-Mobile t-zones feature for $4.99/mo. in order to get email/internet working.

Settings to change:

T-mobile
GPRS Connection

Is it necessary to have the sim card installed before you unlock the phone? I just bought the SMT5600 on ebay and I plan to unlock it using this method but I dont have a sim card from T-Mobile yet.

I also purchased one via ebay last week, and had similar question as you did. You can unlock the phone without the sim card with no worries ... worked for me.
