Witness the SMT5600 which is a superbly compact Windows Mobile Smartphone. It's downright petite by smartphone standards and is about the same size as other small candy bar cell phones on the market. The phone is made by HTC, the same folks who brought you the unit's predecessor the SPV E200, as well as several classic iPAQs like the iPAQ 5555, 4150 and the extremely popular XDA II Pocket PC Phone Edition model. Several carriers and vendors sell the device, so it's known by many names. In the US, it's the Audiovox SMT5600 sold by AT&T Wireless which is the unit we're reviewing. Once stock of the AT&T phones runs out, you should be able to get one from Cingular in Q1 of 2005. In Europe Orange offers it as the C500, and in Europe, the Middle East and Asia iMate and Carrier Devices offer it as the SP3. HTC's code name for the device is "Typhoon". Other than a few firmware differences resulting from carrier customizations and band support, they're the same unit. This is one feature packed little gem. I just wish UPS would hurry up and deliver mine. :(

Mike - is the UPS delivering from US to Canada - I have found they are the worst for that leg. As a shipper, they go through a 3rd part clearing agent for Canada Customs where as Fedex and USPS seems to get it right and do their own customs clearence. I hope you get it soon.

USPS is the worst. Usually it takes just over 2 weeks on average.

UPS is better, usually just over 1 week and the parcel is in your hands.

FedEx is the best, really fast, I can get things in a week or less. Or course the customs bill always comes later in the mail. :(

Ya, this is coming from the US to Canada, and I thought it was being sent UPS, but in my emails to the seller, it looks like he used USPS. The auction said UPS 2 day delivery. Naturaly, I expected that he would use UPS to send to Canada too. But I guess not.

Of course, this could all be a front, and I could have been taken to the cleaners. :(

No, I don't think that will work. My understanding is that the radio is hardware based, and flashing the ROM won't effect that. However, I could be wrong.

I got mine off ebay.
