Didn't know they were going to make one.
I know the 200 had one but I haven't seen or heard anything of a 220 black case.

The story on the "black" MPx220 is that its a dark red or ox blood color. Either way rumors say its either the European version or it was the engineering samples only which would make sense since that is the only color I have seen that was engineering samples. That doesn't mean that there not silver engineering samples just that I have yet to read, or see one on any.

ThxNo. From all indications, they were (are) engineering testing samples. And they were a dark maroon or cordovan/oxblood, not black.

I guess if you could find one CHEAP you could always paly Dr. Frankenstein and get the casing off of it but I doubt anyone wants to do that. 8O

I'm a little disappointed that Moto has not offered the dark one. Both models look nice, but I would prefer to have a choice. :)

Now this is why a black MPx220 is a bad idea.

It's the the middle of the night, it's dark in your house, you wake up thinking you hear your cellphone ring. It can't be you say because the MPx220 was designed not to be heard! Now you won't even be able to see it!!

mine is black and not an engineering sample. you have to find a cell phone dealer that carries them, which is kinda difficult. i paid $400

there is no dark red or maroon colored model.

there is, however, a black model with a bronze face (instead of silver).. that is even harder to find

Ok so what dealer did you go through since others would like to know. Thanks.

I think the European version would be darker colored.

Moto is doing similar stuff with BT headset HS850 (http://www.infosyncworld.com/reviews/n/5531.html): Blue for US, black for Europe.

No way I would pay $1150 for an MPx220 just so I could have a dark colorled phone. I hope no one else has either.

People who bought it at Best Buy and were Cingular customers had to go thru a little bit of a loop. And people like me, who bought one at Best Buy and were not Cingular customers had to really fight it out to get the replacements. Most of us went the thru the agonizing process twice.

I *shiver* at the thought of buying an MPx220 thru an online retailer or eBay, and trying to get the ROM upgrade.

It would be better to just get a can of black spray paint and some masking tape. 8)
