I never considered planting them! :)

Just an idea, I think several places will accept cell phones which are then set up for 911 calling only and given to battered women. Or those that may have a similar need. Check with your provider or a shelter in your area

That's a good idea. I used to just put them in the dumpsters at cell phone stores. Lately because I usually have them for a year at most, I've been selling them on eBay.
