I keep geting this error message when I try to install the downloaded software to configure my Audiovox SMT5600...
"Installation failed. The program or setting cannot be installed because it is not digitally signed with a trusted certificate."
So WHERE do I download a Certificate, DISABLE certificate verification, or ENABLE Prompting for Unverified Certificates ???
In Windows XP this is easy, but in Windows Mobile ???

It's important to note, that these devices are nothing like Windows XP.
Your device has been pre-configured from the carrier to prevent any applications from accessing "privileged" area's of the phone. Further to that, some carriers will only allow signed applications to be installed. Luckily, that's not the case with AT&T and the Audiovox.
You can't go about signing the app, or download a certificate to resolve this. There are only 2 things you can do. 1) hope that AT&T will provide you with the ability to remove this restriction. - not very likely, and 2) find a hack that will allow you to remove it yourself.
This restriction was put in place by your carrier as a means of protection for you. It prevents a virus or untrusted application from modifying, or using the carriers network, and ringing up a nice bill on your account.
There was some recent info posted to this thread (http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=6703) about removing that lock.

Mike,
The only problem with this is that these are applications that are originating from the SMARTPHONE CONFIGURATOR
and I have an AT&T SMT5600 !!!
If the Files aren't signed, there has to be a way to tell Windows Mobile to either NOT look for the Digital Signatures,
or ASK if I still want to install them even though they aren't signed.

In an effort to get rid of this madness for everyone, I have sent the following email to AT&T Wireless Customer Service.
Lets see how they respond...
"To Whom This May Concern,
I have a brand new AT&T Wireless AudioVox SMT5600.
I have tried several times to customize this phone using your website...
http://aws.startwindowsmobile.com/
I get the text message, download the software, and install it.
During the install, I get this error message for each option I want to install to customize my phone...
"Installation failed. The program or setting cannot be installed because it is not digitally signed with a trusted certificate."
Could you PLEASE download the certificates I need to my phone so I can install this software ???
Either that or get rid of your customization site if we cannot use the software you are providing to us."
Thank you,
Pete...

Ah, I see. I didn't realize you where using the Start Windows Mobile site. I thought you were just talking about some random software you had. :)

I'm actually using a Powerbook with PocketMac installed which allows me to connect, so I have all SORTS of issues with mine when it comes to installation.
A friend of mine has an IBM thinkpad that he uses with his and we compare notes. He can install programs like agile messenger, no problem, and I've had him install stuff for me.
I can't install much of anything when it comes to software, and transferring files back and forth is much slower on mine than his, but it's got to be possible and I hope that enough people support Mac resources so that we can have a choice when it comes to connectivity... and I don't know if there's a Mac/Smartphone resource anywhere...
blah blah blah...
