Boxwave Chargers & SMT5600

It has come to my attention that the Boxwave chargers (see the below email) are not compatible with the Audiovox SMT5600.

My friend purchased one for her SMT5600 at my suggestion and after a very frustrating weekend away from home she informed me that the car charger was not charging her phone.

The green light on the car charger was on, but neither her phone's amber light or it's icon showed that a USB device was attached. Sure enough, not too long afterwards her phone died and I didn't hear from her again until Monday.

After talking with her again I went to the Boxwave web site to try and figure out the problem. I found no techinical support on the car charger and no mention of the SMT5600 or the Orange C500 model phones.

I emailed them and asked for assistance and this is their reply to me.

Thank you for your email!

I am sorry to inform you that we have found that the Audiovox SMT5600 cannot be charged through the Car Charger, Wall Charger, Battery Adapter or VersaCharger. It was our intention to make the Audiovox SMT5600 charge through our Chargers, but was unable due to the unique hardware configuration Audiovox used on that particular model. I apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused you.

Well, there you have it. The Boxwave devices will not work with the SMT5600. :cry:

I'm trusting that the company will take back my friend's device and perhaps pay for shipping - too much to ask for?

Does anyone else know of a car charger for USB devices like the SMT5600?

Yeah, I just found this out myself yesterday - very frustrating! It's something specific to the C500/Audiovox unit. The VersaCharger works great with my Dell X30 Sync 'n Charge cable...

The ATT Wireless store has it also for $19.30. I'd assume that the ATT Wireless store cary it as well.

I've had a similar problem with the chargers from Zip Linq. I purchased a USB-miniUSB cable and the wall and car adapters. While I can charge the phone using the USB port on my laptop, if I use the same cable on the wall charger it will not charge (with the phone on or off).

My only thought is that the USB port puts out higher AMP total than the wall adapter? I haven't tried the car adapter yet, but it is only rated for 400mA, while the wall apater is rated for 1A.

Anyone know how much power a USB port on a laptop puts out?

The "minisync" from Boxwave works well. But it charges from a computer, not a wall socket. Just got mine last week.

miniSync is the small sync cable with a green button on the top, and rectractable cords on either end.
