Considering the price difference, is there anything about the Mpx220 that is different enough from the SMT5600 that makes it better? They both have cameras, bluetooth, Windows Mobile 2003 ( I think). The Mpx220 was being advertised at bestbuy for $250 (although in today's flyer I think they're offering a $100 rebate, but not sure, couldn't read the online ad very well). The SMT5600 is $199 and has a rebate. Do you think amazon or buy.com will offer the Mpx220 for less than Bestbuy?

MPx220 key differences...

1. Clam shell..and really stylish.
2. Better Keyboard and joypad. Well laid out.
3. Newer Processor.

More in the review I am working on..should be out soon. Provided I complete it.

Both have Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition.

And price is $250 with 2 year contract. And with only Cingular service (no year committment) it's $350. And without Cingular service it's $500.

Amazon might offer it once AT&T launches the phone. Which should be happening soon or towards the middle of November.

Hopefully Amazon will get the MPx220.

They're selling the SMT5600 for -$25.01 (after all rebates).

IMO, the MPx220's style, joypad/keyboard, and processor don't put it enough ahead of the 5600 to warrant paying $275.01 more for it... :)

I have used the SMT5600 for a couple of weeks and l like it. However it is a bit too small for comforable holding and key presses. (I have somewhat large hands)

Amazon's price on the SMT5600 after rebate is $25 out of pocket for 1 year contract. (TO get the additional $50 rebate, one has to sign up for 2 year contract with unlimited data plan at $25 per month additional, or in other words, a committment of $600. Not worth it, IMHO)

I prefer the clamshell designs. It puts the microphone closer to the mouth, and does not have problem of inadvertant key presses, which I find disconcerting with the SMT5600 in its supplied holster.

Another disadvantage for now is that AT&T Wireless is being bought out by Cingular; going forward if you want to have rollover minutes and choice of cingular plans, you will have to get a cingular phone. THe feeling I got talking with several ATT people, the phones and plans are not interoperable, as of best information now. ATT uses mMode, and Cingular has something else.

So the MPx at Best Buy may be better at about $225 more. I will try it out soon. :)

I didn't have to get the unlimited data plan to get the -$25 price...

Interesting... :? When did you place the order? Did you have to sign up for 2 years? Did you have to sign up for any data plan?

I did notice a change in the order pages on Amazon as of Nov 6th. Now you cannot un-choose the unlimited data plan.

I purchased the Audiovox 5600 from Amazon also. I signed up for the $39.99 national plan with no data plan at the time of order. When I received the phone and called AT&T they asked me what voice and data plans I wanted. They seemed to have no record of any specific plans ordered previously. I told them I wanted the $39.99 voice plan and 4mb data plan. I've had the phone for 2 weeks and love it. I returned the MPX220 even though I prefer the flip style to candy bar. Could not deal with the low volume issues.

If you pick the At&T Silver Value Plan you dont have to have ANY data plan at all!
