Firstly, I love my mpx220. It's more reliable than my old XDA, and I'm not returning it! :D

But I have to report some unfortunate incidents have occurred. I find that the device loses carrier (no bars, shows the circle with the line through it) several times per week, in places where I *know* there is signal. I know there is signal because if I turn off the phone, and turn it back on, the phone recovers to 3 bars and I can maked and place calls! I've found turning off the phone is ther only way to make it reset.

I've also had similar problems where the phone claims to have two or more bars of signal but can't make an outgoing call. Cycling the power on the phone results in it turning on with one or fewer bars, but outgoing calls work again.

I have had one occassion where I should have had good signal (I usually do) but the phone didn't ring and the voice mail indication didn't arrive until I cycled the phone power.

And worst of all, yesterday the phone was particularly ornery, requiring frequent power cycles to acquire signal all day long. In the evening the phone had 2 bars of battery, I set it down to watch a movie (American Wedding, if you need to know) and when the movie was over the phone was DEAD. No amount of button pressing, pluggin in the charger, etc could get it to recover. What finally worked was removing and reinserting the battery, after which the phone came back to life, witrh 50% battery still remaining.

Other's had this experience? Or do I need to exchange the phone?

I have seen this problem with my older MPx200. But MPx220 has a better RF module, hence picks up signal well. Even at my work place where with my older MPx200, I used to see what you described and had to cycle power. But not anymore.

I would recommend taking the phone back to Best Buy and getting a replacement.

Taking the battery out and re-inserting is the best method to try and spring the phone back to life when they stop responding.

I have seen this problem as well. I will sit the phone down and for no apparent reason, it will not receive, or make, calls any longer. Even with 3 or 4 bars.

I have also noticed that on power up it sometimes does not find a signal at all. I have to power it on/off several times.

The same happens with the GPRS, even though I have a GPRS signal, it won't work. Powering on and off doesn't do it either. I have to remove the battery and SIM card. Although I must admit, I have never tried just removing the battery.

I have had it a month now and have not observed any of these problems on my 220.
