Several conditions were given to Cingular in respects to the deal, they are required to sell AT&T Wireless operating units and associated airwaves in 16 markets and 10MHz airwaves in Dallas and Detroit. The also agreed that in the January airwaves auction, Cingular may not bid on any markets that would allow them to control or have greater than 10 percent or greater interest in 70 MHz of airwaves. <a href="http://www.reuters.com/financeNewsArticle.jhtml?type=bondsNews&storyID=6613586">Reuters</a> has the full story."</i><br /><br />Now that everyone has granted their approval, it's time to merge! Anyone care to guess on when the merger will be completed? Or what they might choose for a new name or logo? I think Cingular should replace that dot on the top of their current logo with AT&T's blue globe. 8)

No name or logo changes; I think its going to be Cingular all the way. They're going to want to distance themselves from the AT&T Wireless brand as quickly as possible. I'm betting we'll also see some sweet deals for AWS subscribers whose contracts are up shortly in an effort to stop the massive hemorrhaging of customers. They're going to kick the globe back to AT&T.

I believe it will be called Cingular.

An AT&T support rep told me I would start seeing changes within a month or so. But I'm sure that's just a wild guess.

Yeah there is a site on Cingular.com describing the merger changes, cant remember off hand now where. But it says the name will remain as cingular and current marketing and logos will be Cingular. It also said something like it would continue marketing as ATT for a few months while the marketing changes are made. But expect it to be cingluar all the way. A lot of this I believe has to do with the rights for ATT Wireless and logos going back to ATT, Inc after this is done. Which opens up the door for ANOTHER ATTWS in the future!

Q: Will I see changes to my current bill format?
A: Initially, your bill format will not change. However, your bills will include both the Cingular and AT&T Wireless names. Over time, the Cingular name will replace the AT&T Wireless name.

This is right off their site... Anyway I feel sorry for Attw employees... There's going to be some massive restructuring.

Just noticed today in Flagstaff Arizona my phone switched to "Cingular" from "At&t Wireless". Cingular is not sold or offered in AZ only At&t. Looks like there changing things already.....

Thanks gcherian for the link.

I am impressed. The companies were prepared for the merger. At least they have a nice website ready. Hoping that they would announce things quickly and carry out the changes/transformation quickly. Next year when my T-Mobile contract expires, I will have to explore the NewCingular.

The manager at my local ATTWS store commented that they had been working on the back office parts of the merger for quite some time and that ATTWS was pretty much Cingular behind the scenes already. Guess they were waiting to flip the switch.

Looks like now they have very good coverage in the eastern half of US.

Plus according to the press release they are the largest carrier in terms of the subscriber count.

Waiting eagerly to check out what kind of data plans they will dish out.
