just got the smt 5600 att phone. Lots of questions about its capability and my ability to streamline to those functions I use a lot.

Large Icons - I can change four of them, I cannot remove or move the mmode. How can I? (by the way Orange seems to have 6 icons vertically - seems a nicer screen, how to switch to this?

mmode and inernet explorer both go to the same page on the phone - are they the same? do I need both?

Contact database searches only by letters - how can I search for a key word? like on some I have company name and person, on others just company name. search seems only by name if I have both

How can I add and use another program like a drug (epocrates) database for medical apps?

Can I make hotkey or icons for custom desktop to get to missed calls, received calls, etc.

since internet is slow, I don't want it to dominate my phone functions. obviously phone company makes money on these functions and want them used, am I left with no choice of a screen full of internet connections?

voice activation only possible with phone keypad unlocked?

I am very interested in this phone, but my purchase hinges on its carrying of epocrates. I have shot them an e-mail asking them if it is compatible, only later to find that on their webpage they say epocrates works only with Pocket PC, not Windows Mobile. If I get an e-mail back saying differently I will put it on this thread.

I have found this software (http://www.smartphone.net/smartphonethoughts/software_detail.asp?id=455) thats says it is ok for windows mobile. But I am willing to bet it isn't as comprehensive as epocrates. I plan on looking into a mobile version of Micromedex next.

Nonetheless, the phone looks really great.

You have a lot of questions there! I'm a little rushed today, so I'll start with a couple answers that jumped into my head.

You can add software very easily. There is tons of apps available at our affiliate store. (http://www.smartphone.net/smartphonethoughts) (BTW NTzeke, I updated your link to run through our affiliate listing. 8) )

There are tons of mods available for the home screen. I used to mess around trying to change it myself, but it's just not worth the time. If you search the Front Page Archive for "Coolest" you should find a post about the best homescreens on the internet. Check them out, also look for a application called Homescreen designer on our affiliate store. It's a great WYSIWYG app for making custom homescreens.

You can add applications to speed dial (thus creating a shortcut). I posted an article on how to do this. Here's the link:
