T-Mobile SDA and Orange SPV C500 are based on the same core hardware platform designed by HTC. The obvious differences between them are the outer shell, joypad/joystick and of course the two extra buttons on the SDA for T-Zones and E-Mail. And if you were wondering about the difference in size between the two, then let me tell you that your doubts are about to be answered.<br /><br />Our friend <i>Lutz</i> has provided us some awesome comparison photos of the C500 and the SDA. So pull out your magnifying glasses and see if you can spot any more differences. And don't forget to thank Lutz for providing us with these pictures. <br /><br /><i>Let the photo shoot-out begin..</i><br /><br /> <img src="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/images/C500-SDA (14).jpg" alt="User submitted image" title="User submitted image"/> <br /> <!> <br /> <img src="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/images/C500-SDA.jpg" alt="User submitted image" title="User submitted image"/> <br /><br /> <img src="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/images/C500-SDA (1).jpg" alt="User submitted image" title="User submitted image"/> <br /><br /> <img src="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/images/C500-SDA (2).jpg" alt="User submitted image" title="User submitted image"/> <br /><br /> <img src="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/images/C500-SDA (3).jpg" alt="User submitted image" title="User submitted image"/> <br /> <PAGEBREAK> <br /> <img src="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/images/C500-SDA (4).jpg" alt="User submitted image" title="User submitted image"/> <br /><br /> <img src="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/images/C500-SDA (5).jpg" alt="User submitted image" title="User submitted image"/><br /><br /> <img src="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/images/C500-SDA (6).jpg" alt="User submitted image" title="User submitted image"/> <br /><br /> <img src="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/images/C500-SDA (7).jpg" alt="User submitted image" title="User submitted image"/> <br /><br /> <img src="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/images/C500-SDA 8.jpg" alt="User submitted image" title="User submitted image"/> <br /><PAGEBREAK><br /> <img src="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/images/C500-SDA (9).jpg" alt="User submitted image" title="User submitted image"/> <br /><br /> <img src="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/images/C500-SDA (10).jpg" alt="User submitted image" title="User submitted image"/> <br /><br /> <img src="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/images/C500-SDA (11).jpg" alt="User submitted image" title="User submitted image"/> <br /><br /> <img src="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/images/C500-SDA (12).jpg" alt="User submitted image" title="User submitted image"/> <br /><br /> <img src="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/images/C500-SDA (13).jpg" alt="User submitted image" title="User submitted image"/> <br /><br /> <img src="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/images/C500-SDA (15).jpg" alt="User submitted image" title="User submitted image"/> <br /><PAGEBREAK><br /> <img src="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/images/C500-SDA (16).jpg" alt="User submitted image" title="User submitted image"/><br /><br /> <img src="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/images/C500-SDA (17).jpg" alt="User submitted image" title="User submitted image"/> <br /><br /> <img src="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/images/C500-SDA 18.jpg" alt="User submitted image" title="User submitted image"/>

Excellent work Lutz - thank you for taking the time to do these pictures! The difference between the two looks very small in the photos.

Jason - you've played with the c500 - how does the joypad work? is it a rocker motion or is it more like a tap?

It's like a rocker motion - there's no click or tactile feedback when you've pressed left/right. I didn't find if hard to get used to though...

thanks for looking into my back yard :-)

if you ask me if you should go for c500 or sda - here's what i did:
i've sold the c500....

the joystick makes the difference and the "bumpers" on the keypad. everything else is pretty much the same. even the size difference is to small to have an impact. only one thing speaks for the c500 - its 100 % unique style. it is very special, very stylish. the sda is much more known and equal to other phones out on the market.

anyway: get one of them! its a new experience of windows mobile. very reliable, very stable, very small in your pockets. for the first time a windows mobile smartphone can take the competition to nokia - and win. thats what i was hoping for with my smartphone history (spv classic, spv e100/200, mpx200/200, mitac mio 8380/8390)...

cheers, lutz

ps: if you have any question regarding this phones - feel free to contact me or post here!

Hi Lutz,

Just wondering, what package/plugin did you use to get the weather on the home screen?

Cheers,
James.

Who makes that BT GPS Receiver shown in the pictures? I am looking to buy a GPS receiver that I can use with my PocketPC and also with my smartphone... and preferably with a data recorder...

I believe the plugin can be found here: mobilOK. (http://mobilok.com/) :-)

hi folks,

did not get a mail that someone replied with questions - here are the answers:

the gps receiver is a sys on gps from sysonchip http://www.sysonchip.co.kr/eng/prod/pro_gps_4.htm. i think it is one of the best looking devices an works perfectly with windows driven smartphone/ppc.

regarding the weather on homescreen - ist part of world traveler from mobilOK (mobilok.com). the homescreen can be downloaded seperately and i've simply took the plug in out of the mobilok homescreen and integrated it in mine since i like the all in black look of c500/sda and the white fonts are good readable in all conditions.

questions left? for quick reply send me a mail...

cheers, lutz

Hey Lutz,

First off, great pictures.

I was however wondering, do the two units share a common firmware and/or software revision?

Is there anything on the OS side of things that would set one apart from the other?
