WM2003 Data connection?

I just got an i600 to replace my Blackberry and one thing that i have noticed is that i when i am online and l close the flip the data connection turns off. That sort of defeats the purpose for an automatic sync with exchange on a timed schudle. Does anyone know of a way that i can allow the data connectionto reamin open when the flip is closed.

I understand that in the server mode it will poll the server at the interval you set.

If you have the wireless sync program set to push messages the data service will run while the phone is closed.

Thanks for your help. i have found that server sync will run when closed. But i am wondering, if say activesync is running, and i get a call, or open the flip and make a call, or do somthing else (say view a calendar entry), will when i colse the flap at some point in the near future will active sync resume? or will it wait untill the next schudleled sync to try again?
