For all of the tourists that are thinking of coming here to Toronto, this is not NORMAL. My office is only a couple blocks from the scene, and I walk past that location every day. In fact, this morning, I was about 100 feet from this as it started to unfold. Scary stuff. I'm glad the police didn't waste much time taking control of the situation.

Things like this makes me wonder what is happening to the world.

The news is now reporting that this guy had a history of abusing his wife, and he was just released from jail where he was serving time for... you guessed it, abusing his wife.

You have to wonder what was going through this guys melon. Attacking and shooting at her in a food court at 8am is stupid. But to then go outside and when confronted by police, grab a hostage out front of Union Station, which is probably one of the busiest places in Canada. (Between 8:00am and 9:00am, when this was all happening, there are about 20 trains pulling into Union - according to my schedule. I'm not even talking about the subway that arrives every 5 minutes or so!) No wonder they didn't waste too much time talking with him.
