I was noticing that my speed test results seemed slow. Whether I ran the DSL Reports Mobile Speed Test http://www.dslreports.com/mspeed or http://www.texan.net/speed.htm, I was getting numbers that looked like Q2N.
I changed the connection settings: start - Settings - 9. More... - 1. Data Connections and changed Internet Connection from "Automatic" to "Express Network:. After this change, my speeds went up to above 85 kbps. [/url]

Oh yeah, you're right. I was getting 11kbps before, and now I'm getting 93kbps. That's a 9x increase.
How odd. Why in the world wasn't the phone choosing the Express Network before? Now surfing the web is _way_ faster. I thought the processor was slowing down the web browser, but with WM2003 things are screaming now. At least they should be :)
Great tip! Everyone -- check out the option.

If it was using the older, slower Quick 2 Net setting (instead of Express Network), if you didn't have a data plan, did that count as voice minutes like it does if you use Express Network?

It does not make sense why it would connect via Q2N rather than EN from "automatic". I have had the unlimited data plan since I got the i600.
The only explanation that I came up with was that perhaps in "automatic" it will only select EN when there is a strong signal. I say this because there have been times when it seemed that the i600 was using EN. If this is true it must require better than -65 dB, since this is what I get at my house.

Thanks for the tip Bugwart and thanks Mike for covering for me :-)
This tip may be good for all VZ i600 users, but for us folks on GSM/GPRS networks, it is agonizing ;-)

For GSM, it'd be the difference between connecting via CSD and GPRS .. I guess. :D
