Anyone planning to join Microsoft? Sorry if I scared you ;-)

I would like to add that I have had the opportunity to visit Redmond campus and meet a lot of Microsoft employees on various occassions. Microsoft employees love their jobs and they have TONS of fun doing it. It is one of the best companies to work for. You will be working in the company of some really smart people.

And as a software developer myself (working for another firm), I can relate to the song. I mean my would-be will be able to relate the song.

I think you don't even have to be in software development to relate to this. Anyone in a tech releated career should see how this relates to them.

I love my job, and being away from it for over a week was really hard. (Addicted to work maybe??) And I have worked for companies in the past where 7:00am - 6:00pm was considered a work day. Not because everyone wanted to be there and work hard, but the boss told us - "if you want to work here, be here by 7 and leave after 6". I needed the job, but I didn't stick around long.

I know Microsoft isn't like that, and most companies aren't. It just a matter of finding a job where you enjoy the work, and the company is a fun place to be. I'm still searching for that combination, but I hope to find it someday!

oh, and cute song. My wife laughed the whole way through it. All the time staring at me with this one of those "looks" on her face. Not sure what it means.

As a 7 year Microsoft employee and a 4 yr. husband (my anniversary is today in fact), I can completely relate to this song. I can't tell you how many calls I've made to my wife that went something like "just another 30 minutes hon...", or "uh huh [type type type], yeah [type type type]... er... could you repeat that? [type type type", etc. I've known folks who missed the birth of their children to make a ship date.

That said, people make their own choices. Microsoft does not pressure us to stay late - it's all about getting your work done. You commit to a result and a date, you get it done - plain and simple. They are very good about encouraging a good work/life balance and they encourage us to take time with our families. Of course, in any company, you'll get a few short-sighted moronic managers who value face time over results. But I think that type of management is definitely the exception and not the rule at MSFT.

It goes without saying, of course, that this is my own opinion/observation and not necessarily representative of my employer. :)
