Sprint has stepped up the pace on this rollout to better compete against Verizon, who is also working on a high speed EV-DO based network. Their original plan was to rollout the high speed network by the end of 2006.

The idea of high speed wireless network is very intriguing, however the price of such a network seems a little prohibitive. I've heard the expected cost is $80 a month. I hope for that price there is an easy way to hook my home network up to it. Otherwise; $80 for high speed Internet to my phone just seems crazy.

Isn't Sprint doing EV-Dx?

FWIW, Verizon seems concerned about their potential EV-DO usage.

Their "Data Solutions" folks were giving an update where I work, and one of the things they wanted to know was if we'd be interested in using their EV-DO network as a backup WAN connection in our 2,300+ retail stores.

When we expressed interest in using it as our primary connection, they quickly told us that they weren't looking to add "always on" business connections at that level because they're concerned that consumers are going to sign up en masse and potentially swamp the network.
