Back on March 4th we told you about NeoMagic's press release (http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=5100) where they talked about TCL Corp using their new processors in an upcoming Windows Mobile-based Smartphone called the OCO1.
Earlier this week, Business Weekly ran an article (http://www.businessweekly.co.uk/news/view_article.asp?article_id=8521) that claims the phone has been launched and outlines some of its features.
"They have launched the Microsoft Windows Mobile-based OCO1 Smartphone, a dual band (900/1800 MHz) product. The smartphone includes TTPCom’s GPRS class 10 protocol software, Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 software for Smartphones, chipsets supplied by Analog Devices, and features an embedded digital camera, a 262k colour main display, 4k sub-display, 32 MB internal memory and full multimedia support, including MP3 and MPEG4. A triband version is also under development and is scheduled for launch in 2005."
Shortly after that article appeared, Forbes ran a little piece (http://www.forbes.com/technology/feeds/infoimaging/2004/06/17/infoimaginginterfax_2004_06_17_eng-interfax_eng-interfax_061834_5570630629959844037.html?partner=my_yahoo?partner=my_yahoo&referrer) about another Windows Mobile phone called the e777 that is coming soon from TCL.
"...TCL Mobile partnered with Microsoft to develop the TCL e777 smartphone, and that the two companies had begun promoting this smartphone earlier this week. This handset features a built-in digital camera and 32 MB of memory, which can support MP3 and MPEG4 files. TCL Mobile was also reported to be distributing this model in Asia, with plans to explore the U.S. market next year."
What I get out of all this, is TCL corp. is working hard at releasing Windows Mobile-based handsets. With the OCO1 shipping and a newly announced e777 following. Now you know all there is to know about TCL corp. - A mover and shaker in the Windows Mobile world. :)
