<div class='os_post_top_link'><a href='http://www.msmobiles.com/news.php/2659.html' target='_blank'>http://www.msmobiles.com/news.php/2659.html</a><br /><br /></div><i>"By harnessing the power of a desktop and the portability of a mobile phone, the Motorola MPx220 is the perfect solution for bringing your office on the road. The sophisticated model MPx220 gives users quick access to e-mail, the Web, advanced multi-media messaging service (MMS), global quad band performance and an integrated camera. Productivity is sure to increase so the busy professional will never miss a beat when away from the office..."</i><br /><br />msmobiles.com has published a press release that seems to be legitimate - all the facts add up to what we'd expect about the phone: 1.2 MP camera, flash, 3x digital zoom, quad band, Bluetooth, 64 MB Flash ROM, and miniSD support. Having a PR background myself, I can tell you that this is an authentic press release - whether or not it's the "real" one from Motorola is anyone's guess, but it seems legitimate to me. Q3 starts next month, and I've heard strong strong info that it will be available shortly. We'll see!

Any guesses as to why there needs to be an asterisk after "photo caller-ID"?

Could be a footnote that is left out of this re-printing. Something like caller id required for this application to work. Just a guess.

I hope it is true, as I'd like to get a clamshell phone with Bluetooth, and this sounds like a good one, a smartphone to boot, perhaps worth waiting for rather than getting a V600 or z600 or something.

However, I am highly suspicious of the veracity of this "press release". First of all, this guy who has the website he calls msmobiles.com is somewhat of a nut. Read his posts (under the same name) on the microsoft smartphone newsgroup, and you'll see what I mean.

Secondly, why does this "press release" only appear on his web site and no where else, including the Motorola site? Why does Motorola as of now not mention anything about this phone on any of their pages, while one can find announcements from them about mpx100, mox, etc.?

And some of the language is so poor. I couldn't believe a major company like Motorola would release a PR like that!

For instance, the subtitle: "all kinds of clever"????What?-----

The MPx100 and MPx have been officially announced by Motorola back at the MDC event. The MPx220 however, has not been announced by Motorola as of yet. We can only assume that it has not been announced because they want to protect the sales of MPx200.

It appears to be a leaked copy of the announcement. So you won't find it on Motorola's site just yet.

Mike's point makes sense; would like to add my guess - it is enabled via third party software hence the asterisk.

Well now we know that the phone is Quad band and that it will support SD-Mini.

I would like to know whether the phone would be sold in black or silver color or both? I like the black colored version, makes the phone look sleek.

Also I hope that this time Motorola will not have special version of the phone for certain carriers. I mean MPx200 sold via AT&T was only dual band (1800/1900) even though Motorola advertised it as Tri-band :-) I would be careful about the Quad band claim and cross check with the carriers.

the press release in original format was in Microsoft Word file and it included photo of MPx220 in black, so most probably it will be available in black.

regarding Quad band: there is big text "QUAD" on the front of the phone, so it must be for a reason...

regarding credibility of the press release: Motorola distributed it already to some partners.... it is not my invention! I wouldn't do such thing...

This has been the debate for a while. The Quad on the phone looks very much like the logo from a speaker company. Many are under the impression that this means the speaker in the phone is built by this highend company. You can check them out here. (http://www.quad-hifi.co.uk/esl.htm) Check out the logo in the lower right corner. I hope the Quad means both, but I think we'll have to wait and see.

Motorola MPx220 is Quad band, the press release first para makes it clear "global quad band performance and an integrated camera". I am sure the Quad on the phone means the band and not the speaker.

My concern is whether the branded version i.e. Orange MPx220 or T-Mobile MPx220 or AT&T MPx220 will be quad band or not. I guess we will have to wait.

Like I said earlier AT&T MPx200 is not Tri-band, but the Motorola MPx200 and Orange MPx200 are.

Interesting point of view.

Is a new FCC filing by Motorola the MPx220? It’d be nice to think so…

I read what appears to be a fake press release just yesterday by another website which… well frankly, I don’t want to talk about, since their behaviour brings down the whole Microsoft Smartphone community as a whole. But it got my interest up enough to do some digging. ...

Are you referring to the one that this thread refers to?

Interesting - Moto has got to be loving all the hype about this phone...

Frankly I'm not going to believe anything until I see a press release on Moto's site. :?

I wonder what the unlocked phone will cost... anyone want to guess?

My Guess - $500-$600. I would be shocked if it was any more or less than that.

I venture to say about $300-$400(locked) then spend $25 to get it unlocked by one of these "yahooo" companies that specialized in unlocking phones.

Good news...

Heard from a friend here at work who has a friend that works at Moto (Chicago) and told me that he already has the 220. Hopefully I'll find out more info but it is nice to hear that some of the moto folks are actually using the phone!

now if I could just get my hands on it....

Actually, I think Ben is in the right range. For all the features this phone has, I would be shocked if it sold for less than $500.

Whoops! Just noticed the "Locked" part of your post. Ya, if it's locked to a carrier, then around the $300-$400 range seems correct. Unlocked and unbranded would be in the $500-$600 range

The unlocked V600 is around USD500 in singapore. mpx220 will be around USD 700-800 down here. Bah.

Bah again.
