AT&T Wireless is obligated to maked commercial 3G services available to satisfy an agreement with Japanese carrier NTT DoCoMo, a part-owner of AT&T Wireless.

The service will use W-CDMA, the same technology Cingular will be using for their 3G rollout. However, Cingular will not be prepared to offer 3G until 2006 or 2007. No word on how the Cingular acquisition of AT&T Wireless will affect the 3G rollout.
