But I have a question - who supports these "OEM" phones? Does Motorola? I mean if there are flash ROM updates, does Motorola make these generic ROMS available or are you pretty much stuck with the way it is "out of the box"?

Maybe I'm blind... But what carrier is this for? Is it the same as for the other Motorolla Smartphones ( Cingular now right? )?

This is a OEM phone. It is not locked to any carrier. All you need is a SIM card from a carrier that offers GSM coverage. Just drop it in the phone and away you go.

It's just a pre-order. It's like putting your name on a waiting list. From what I understand, pricing info is on the way.

No one seems to want to voice an answer to this. Ordering an unbranded phone sounds good at first but to me getting an answer on the support after the sale seems a critical point........

I don't think it's a case of not wanting to answer. It's more, not wanting to give out information that might not be 100%. If I say one thing, and it doesn't happen, then I will be nailed to the wall for committing to something. As soon as we know exact details, we will be sure to let everyone know.

I can tell you that Tek N Toys is working hard to ensure that customers are happy with their purchase.

It really has nothing to do with the pre-order or Tek N Toys. All I am asking is if you buy an unbranded phone, do you call Motorola for support rather than your carrier and does Motorola honor the one-year warranty directly?

I assume they are selling Mpx200 unbranded, so someone should be able to answer this question.

I'm not sure to be honest - I asked Todd and he said that for the Mitac phones, they'll be providing ROM updates. He didn't tell me what the plan was for the Motorola phones. I have an AT&T-branded MPx200 and a Orange-branded SPV, but neither is active on their "home" networks. I've been able to download the ROM update from Orange for the E200, but I haven't tried downloading any ROM updates for the unlocked MPx200.
