Could you tell me how to perform a hard-reset on an i-mate Smartphone2?
Thanks for your help!

First of all the mandatory warning...Hard Reset is tricky business and you will wipe out your personal data and apps. (And also some apps that came with the phone).

The instructions for your phone are the same as that for the Orange SPV E200. In case you need more detailed instructions, search for E200 Hard Reset.

Anyway, Here it goes..

- Switch off the phone, and make sure that you have an SD card in slot
- Hold down the Record/Memo button
- While holding that down, Hold down the Power Button
- The screen will show something like found SD card and then prompt you to press any key.
- When you see that message, quickly Push down on the Action key (Joystick - Center - Push it down) and hold it for a second.
- If you see a screen with a listing of numbers and number 8 with Erase IPSM, you are all set. (Incase you see a screen with multiple colors then you will have to repeat the process all over again)
- Select 8 and wait for the phone to do its job.

Don't forget to pat your head and jump up and down on one foot while you do this too!

I have an Orange SPV E200 and I am trying to do a hardware reset as per the intruction below (or Above). I have tried now many times and cannot get the screen with the numbers and only get the screen with the many colours.

The tricky step in the above instruction set is this one

- When you see that message, quickly Push down on the Action key (Joystick - Center - Push it down) and hold it for a second.

If you don't time it properly you will see the screen with the colors. Also 5 way joysticks can be a pain sometimes when it comes to pushing down, you have to keep steady pressure. Also I hope that your joystick is fine. I have heard about a few complaints with E200 joysticks. And don't forget to take the SD card.

For the love of all that's holy, I can't get this to work.

Is there another way?

Probably not....

Nope. Not that I'm aware of.

It took me a good half hour trying this before I got the keys pressed in just the right way. If that helps any. :?

I had this problem on my E200. You press the action button when prompted and the screen goes white? I tried it a dozen times with no joy.

Fixed it by removing the SD card or (in my case) its blanking plate, then powering on. This time it won't say "card found" cos it isn't found. But when you click the action button now, it gives you the menu - you select option 8, and obliteration is yours.

That's for the C500. I don't expect it would work on the i-mate SP2. However, it's worth a try.

If you are having problems carrying out a hard reset on a E200 Smartphone then make sure you have the orig SD Memory chip installed as this has the boot info and software. If it is not installed the menu list will not appear........
