This feature gives the user an always on and always current feeling. The other benefits of this feature are better device resource utilization, a more consistent user experience when compared to device expectancies and this operation is done in the background without the device turning itself on."<br /><br />This is a really good introduction that should help you determine if you can take advantage of this feature.

You Had Me At EHLO...

 Simply the best tag line I have read on a blog to-date. Ah, to be a geek. :) Alright, I'll get back to reading the article now.

Very interesting... So what is stopping me from building an app that follows these same steps and ties into my non-exchange mail server? Basically you are sending a specialy formated SMS that tells the device to connect to the mail server (any mail server) and download mail. I think I just found myself another project to try out. Now all I need is time. :(

I think you'd have a seriously big seller on your hands if you were to develop something that would work with non-Exchange servers. 8O

Beats me. I suppose you'd need bits on the server to send the message with some tag (GUID?) in it indicating that it's an update request, and bits on the phone to catch the request. What I'm not really clear on is how spoofing is prevented.
