"Maintain Groups" on Smartphone E200

Can anybody tell me the purpose of this? I assumed that by creating a group I would be a ble to text all the members at once, without having to add each one to the "To" box. However, that doesn't work, and there is no reference to "Groups" in my Smartphone manual. Anybody?

There is a group function in Orange plus application (STK service) but its a bit confusing and have not yet have the time to bother trying the app as its very slow.
