Arne, you are a god. Or at least one luck SOB. ;)

My thoughts; the MPx100 looks a lot thinner than I had expected. And the Mpx300 looks more solid than the previous pictures.

Very nice devices. Keep up the good work Motorola.

Any chance to get a pic of the MPx100 powered up?

This might be sparking a flame war or something, but I am curious about the reasoning behind full qwerty keyboards on cell phones & PDAs: Is it just an alternative to styli, T9, etc., or are people doing A LOT more text-editing and input on PocketPC devices than I care to admit? :)

Personally, I like the MPx200 and MPx100 - phones first, PDAs second. What is up with the MPx220 though? It's not getting much press, and from the earlier looks of it, it's like a messed up high-end Sony Clie or something...they took the elegance of the clamshell 200 and turned it into a crappy chunk of a PDA.

Anywho, just curious. Thanks!

People who wanted a Pocket PC and a keyboard are heavy into data entry, answering email messages in full sentences, and generally focused on getting more "real" work done. Smartphones are voice first, data second. Pocket PC Phone Editions are data first, voice second.

Yeah, there is a distinct lack of MPx220 news...maybe tomorrow?

reasoning behind full qwerty keyboards
I would guess that they have become popular since providers want to make money on their data networks, and the "wrong" thinking that they could create a device that would replace a PDA and Laptop functionality to a limited degree. I would guess that it is now "finally" realized that QWERTY keyboards will never be more then "low" single digit market share.

More and more devices like the mpx100/200/220 will be coming out. Strictly guessing from "water cooler" talk, on what people want. You are most likely not alone in your thinking. I have found it frustrating as well since all I really want is a reliable phone with a large address book. The address book size has not really changed that much in the past 5 years, most phones still around 200, unless you go to a PDA/Smartphone which can use all memory for the address book. If the mpx100 does come out mid year I would guess it will be a big seller, many do not like the flip phone as well, since it takes a 2nd hand to open.

I enjoyed the commentary with the annoucement of the mpx100 on Smartphone Thoughts, that it seems to have what people want. Kind of amazing we have over 100 phones to choose from and it took this long to create one in which "what people want" :):):)

All I ever wanted in a phone is that it reliably synchs with my address book and calendar on Outlook (wired, wireless; doesn't matter, as long as it does so reliably) - that's all. That's pretty much the only reason I bought a Pocket PC in the first place a long time ago...which I suppose explains why I'm so jazzed about these Microsoft Smartphones!

If it plays MP3s and takes good photos and cooks my dinner and walks the dog and wipes my butt as well, so be it.

That's true - I guess I forget about the full email functionality of Pocket PCs because I was never able to implement that wirelessly at the last place I worked; lack of budget = lack of fun toys to play with.

For what I want to do, a Smartphone seems ideal. I'm glad there's a large diversity of products to fit various niche needs, personally...

This new Motorola Mpx100 looks like the kind of Smartphone that could bring me back - I'll be very interested to see how quickly they can bring this out, and how well Smartphone 2003 performs on it!

I'm very interested in seeing how Smartphone 2003 performs as well -- as much as I love my Smartphone 2002, it can be sluggish at times.

I'm also hoping that they've increased the RF reception vs. the MPx200 ... I had the WORST time with that MPx200 .. :: sigh ::
