Does anyone know if IR recieve is on all the time on the MPX 200 or is there a setting to activate it ?

Iam trying to connect my Dell Axim PPC to the phone to send SMS using the mphone software without any success.

You know, I've tried to find the IR settings before (and again just now), and I can't. :? So my assumption would be that it's always on, since there appears to be no software setting to turn it off...I wish I could offer better help for you, but these Smartphones are strange beasts. 8O

Go settings / Beam and turn on Receive Incoming Beams.

Yes Mike you are right about the beam recieve setting (I have just tried it), activating this allows the phone to recieve contact info ect from the Pocket PC when its off contacts ect can't be sent.
As far as connecting to the phone to send SMS using mPhone software on the PPC it makes no differance. I suspect that mPhone is not compatible with the MPX 200. I will try a few others.

Has anyone had any success conecting to a PPC in this way ?

Sorry for the brief post. I was being bugged as I was posting my findings and didn't have the time to explain everything.

I was just looking to determine if the IR is on or off. It appears to be off by default until the above setting is changed. Then it's on.

As for the SMS issue, I haven't done anything like that, and I should have mentioned that I was unsure how this would help or hinder your attempt to send SMS using IR.

I have just discovered that to send SMS via the pocket PC you have to enable the IrDa Modem ! not the recieve IR.

Having said that I still can't send any SMS as the phone does not seem to be accepting the SMS centre number but at least the Axim and the MPX200 are communicating.

At the moment I am trying to get simple SMS to work

do not find any beem under the settings menu

On my phone Red E, The "Infrared Receive" is under Programs -> Accessories.

And to send a contact, select the Contact from the list and hit the menu soft key, and it will show the Beam Contact option.
