SMS counter screw up

I'm having a challenge with my SMS, new message indicator. It seems to be stuck on 12 new messages. Everytime I powerup the phone(mpx200) the new SMS envelope appears and my indicator says 12. I've checked and don't have any new messages. Any helpful suggestions out there?

This is sometimes an issue on the carrier's side of things. Sometimes having someone send you an SMS message (or sending one to yourself) will clear it out. Otherwise, you'll want to give your carrier a ring.
