It looks like this new application aims to fill that gap:<br /><br />"This software will allow you to sync any file to and from any directory on your smartphone or storage card and any directory on your PC. This software doesn't install any extra software on the phone. The program features a system tray icon and the ability to "autosync" everytime you connect your phone. There are endless uses for this product such as synchronizing text files in which you were to create personal notes in, pictures taken with the phone, media content, and any other type of file you can possibly think of! This is what's been missing from the smartphone's current synchronization ability! Works for locked and Unlocked phones! Trial is a 30 day limited version. Known Limitations: Currently does not support deletion or subdirectory synchronization."<br /><br /><img src="http://www.smartphone.net/Product_images/1/134/RSDSBOX.jpg" alt="User submitted image" title="User submitted image"/>

So it's another whole sync program?! Any reason why it's not a plugin to ActiveSync? Seems odd to use 2 programs to sync with your computer. Maybe I'm missunderstanding how it works, or does it offer something that Activesync just plain can't do?

ActiveSync synchronizes data with outlook and does not offer the ability to sync seperate files. This product will sync files of any type to and from the smartphone.

I guess what I don't understand is that ActiveSync supports files on the PPC. So is it the ActiveSync that is installed on the phone where it's missing support? because the one on the desktop seems to have support.

Originally I had looked into implementing this through ActiveSync as an ActiveSync provider, but I was unable to find an efficient way to do so. As a result I designed the product to run beside Active Sync with a proprietary interface as its control center. Who knows though, if I can find a way to this in the future, maybe I'll be able to implement in that way...

I had back luck with the program. I tried to sync e-wallet and although the program indicated it had snyc'd it had not but worse it appears to have corrupted the e-wallet program on my PC. It appears I have to re-install it and use the back-up to get it to work again. E-wallet is my most used smartphone program after contacts and calendar so I was hoping to be able to sync without dragging over a new copy with every change.

I did not try other programs since I didn't want to run the risk of damaging them as well. I'll wait for some other testers.
