As long as it's a GSM-based phone it should be possible for you to roam in any network that your provider has an agreement with.

GSM support roaming and the Microsoft SmartPhone OS supports it, so it's basicly down to if your subscribtion allows you to.

Roaming on a SmartPhone works very well, you get different networks very fast and you get a roaming symbol on the taskbar.

The problem with the AT&T branded MPx200 is that it lacks access to the 900 band. I believe T-Mobile in England uses the 1800 band which is included but I believe in other areas of Europe the 900 band is more common. I have seen several complaints from people traveling with the AT&T MPx200 that have stated they were completely unable to get service with their phones.

I have seen some news saying that AT&T might be reconsidering their attempt to further chain their users to only AT&T and might offer an official upgrade that will allow access to the 900 band.

If unlimited travel is your desire you may want to look into whether or not there is a copy of a non-AT&T adulterated ROM out on the internet somewhere.

Yes, that is correct. The 900 band is very well buildt out here, you have coverage everywhere... but the newer 1800 band is mostly implemented where the traffic is high, in the big cities etc...
