Wow! 8O It sure didn't take them long to drive that price point down. It doesn't get much cheaper than this to get a Smartphone! [Affiliate]

I may be wrong on this, but it looks like they cut the base price here rather than increasing the rebate amount. This means the device is now $50 cheaper even without a service plan. I wonder if this is an Amazon-only thing or if the price has also dropped by $50 if your order straight from ATTWS...

The Amazon non-plan price is still $399. :(

Wonder what T-Mo's MS Smartphone will be priced at (when it finally is released)?

Ok so that must mean that the ATTWS subsidy is what has changed... very cool!

Can't Wait until T-Mobile comes out with a smart phone. Any one hear any rumors?

The only rumors I've heard are that you'll be waiting several more months - but they are determined to get something out in 2004

Well here's why the prices are coming down for AT&T phones -

AT&T is in some serious trouble now that the FCC has publicly rapped it.

In addition to the number portability issues, if you read some of the comments on the MPx200 on Amazon, customers were saying that AT&T wasn't able to activate ANY GSM customers for awhile. :(

Yeah I know. This is what I posted on the AT&T being tasked by FCC story -

Basically lame @ss reponses from them. First they had issues with their GSM networks being down. Then they had issues with their CRM Software and not being able to do phone activations. And now this with the huge delays they are causing for number portability. Is AT&T really that incompetent during a critical holiday season?!
At this rate I wouldn't buy the MPx200 from AT&T even if they gave it for free since you'd be stuck with them for 2 years ontop of all this confidence inspiring antics they've been doing of late.
Oh why oh why doesn't anyone else have the SmartPhones other than AT&T and Verizon?! AT&T is pathetic right now and Verizon has a hugely expensive deal with the phone price and no unlimited data. It would be cool if Sprint or T-Mobile came up with the SmartPhone. At least they have sane and decent data plans. What a fiasco. MS releases a good phone with a carrier who is down in the dumps now.

Did get the MPX200 2 days ago and customer service was very prompt. Was able to make outgoing calls 2 hours later. Number portability, I was told, while take another 3 to 5 days until my old number is switched from Nextel to ATT.
Apart from that no problems. I can download email from hotmail via msn.com etc.

"it doesn't get much cheaper than this"... until it becomes $FREE. Check it out now. I clipped this from Amazon's site this morning at 6:45 ET:

Motorola MPx200 Smartphone - Next Generation (AT&T)
Avg. Customer Rating:
Usually ships in 24 hours

List Price: $299.99
Our Price: $169.99 (when purchased with service plan)
You Save: $130.00 (43%)
Special Offers: $170.00
Price After Special Offers: Free

Now THAT would make even us loyal T-Mobile customers seriously consider switching, inspite of the number portability issues they're having. T-Mobile, are you listening?
