Now's the time to do it! Order from Amazon before Thursday and the price after rebates is a mere $129.99. For years, price was one of the primary reasons that people gave when asked why they didn't have a Pocket PC. It's really great (and surprising) to see that we won't be having that problem with Smartphone. :way to go:

Nothing new here.

I've seen that for more than a week on Amazon. But it's only good if you purchase at least one year of AT&T cellular service together with the phone.

SIM-free MPx200 (handset only) are $400 on Amazon.com :

Phone only purchase:
Motorola MPx200 Smartphone - Next Generation (AT&T)
Avg. Customer Rating:
Usually ships in 2 to 3 days

Phone Price: $399.99
(without service activation)

Customer Note:
Your existing service plan must be compatible with this phone.

For a $78 more you can get a e200 (HTC Voyager aka Qtek 8080) with Smartphone 2003 and a longer battery life at expansys:

I believe that Amazon deal also requires that you don't have an existing AT&T account.

BTW, I just read about a new technology AT&T will implement this or next quarter called EDGE that supposedly will be faster than present CDMA. Is the MPx200 Smartphone upgradeable to use this technology?

Thanks for any information.

Doubtful - EDGE will require a new type of radio, but it will be backwards-compatible with GPRS.

Wonder what its RF reception is like compared to the Moto?

In Virginia Beach, I can't get a solid T-Mo signal on the Moto in my house or at my desk at work. :(

Sorry! This product is not available for Midlothian, VA

Too bad that AT&T doesn't offer service in my area. They have a partner here called SunCom, but so far I don't think SunCom is offering the SmartPhone for their service.

Umm, yeah. I find great humor in SunCom's slogan: "We're SunCom -- We Get It". Apparently "Getting It" doesn't include new telephones.

I'm in a SunCom area too. SunCom actually does have GSM/GPRS service in Virginia, so if you buy a MPx200 for $400 from Amazon (without a plan), and pay $20 to have it unlocked, you COULD try their service. It was too weak in my house, so I had to cancel everything and send the phone back.

Have you seen Verizon's new i600 Smartphone? It's expensive, but there are some rebates going on it, and apparently you can use their data network with any voice plan without paying extra -- it just uses your voice minutes. Stuck in SunCom land here, that's what I'm getting. :)
