I've been nosing around for the last few days trying to figure out how I can get my hands on an 8390. I just received a very polite response from Mitac. According to the sales rep who contacted me, Mitac will not be releasing the 8390 until sometime next year. Of course, that makes perfect sense considering that they only recently launched the 8380. Still, I was hoping for better news to report!

Mitac will not be releasing the 8390 until sometime next year.
That could be as little as 4 months or as much as 14 months away!
At least now I know not to wait. Besides, I'm still pretty hung up on the SPV2 (http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=32513&sid=3e1088d69626e7a80441310666b2718b) :D

I'm not so excited about the Mitac Mio 8390 anymore. :? And here's why...
The recently released specifications (http://www.digitimes.com/NewsShow/Article.asp?datePublish=2003/09/22&pages=PR&seq=201) of the Mitac Mio 8390 seem to indicate that it is a GPRS Class 8(!) device... which is really not cool. :| :?: Whereas the Mitac Mio 8380 is a GPRS Class 10 device (according to the Mio Digi-Walker website (http://65.115.69.88/mio/products_mio8380.asp)).
Class 8 One Uplink, Four Downlink Slots - 8-12Kbps Send - 32-40Kbps ReceiveClass 10-Configurable between
One Uplink, Four Downlink Slots - 8-12Kbps Send - 32-48Kbps Receive
Or Two Uplink, Three Downlink Slots - 16-24Kbps Send - 24-36Kbps Receive
I don't understand why Mitac would release a GPRS Class 8 device (Mio 8390) after releasing a GPRS Class 10 device (Mio 8380)? Perhaps the difference (in GPRS speed) between a Class 8 and a Class 10 device is negligible?
Anyways, without integrated Bluetooth, and now with (only) a GPRS Class 8 radio... the Mitac Mio 8390 doesn't seem so attractive. :?
