Ok, quick, what's wrong with this list that I see when I connect my Smartphone to do an Add/Remove Programs from within ActiveSync?

It's showing me Pocket PC applications! ActiveSync should be able to tell the difference between a Pocket PC and Smartphone application, and only display the correct one to the user. It's certainly within the realm of possibility for a user to have both a Pocket PC and a Smartphone, especially in these nascent months as most Smartphone buyers are power users.

I noticed the same thing the first time I went to add a new program to my Smartphone, and I agree - it sure would be nice if the only apps that showed were those that applied to that unit. Considering that the device name is different, I would think that shouldn't be too hard to do.

It wasn't much of a problem initially - I hadn't installed much on my Smartphone yet, and the apps I did install were fairly distinctive. This will only get worse with time, as the list of software gets longer as I try out apps on the smartphone.

At least Ilium seems to understand the issue - they have either "Pocket PC" or "Smartphone" in parenthesis behind the software title, so I know if I'm looking at ListPro for my Jornada or my SPV in the Add/Remove Programs applet.

Woohoo!!! Where can I get the Spb FSK for my Smartphone!?!?
But wait a minute, how should it work!?

Seriously, looks like the Developers have to take care again and have to add PPC/SMP into the product name now... I had several products in AS which are available for PPC and SMP and it was a try and go to find the right version to install it on my SMP... :-(

Does ActiveSync look for the platform ID ot the Processor type?

Well... I do think simply adding SMP or PPC to an appliation name should be enough.

The problem is it's up to developers to define which platforms their applications supports or not, if they go the easy way and just create CABs that pretend to support all platforms, they will be displayed when any device is connected.... not ActiveSync mistake, they just trust the information embedded in the CABs.
