Seems like there aren't many home screen plug-ins available. I find this surprising, given the high level of activity with both home screens and applications, plus the awesome potential of plug-ins. Below are a few that I would like to see. If they exist already, please let me know.

- Totally customizable clock. Options for digital, analog, all different sizes, graphic numerals and animation.

- Weather bar. Internet-enabled. Next few days of weather with icons, hi/lo temps, etc.

- Webcam viewer. Internet-enabled, can be configured to load a new webcam image every x minutes or hours.

- RSS Headline bar. Shows the latest news, etc. right on your home screen.

What would you like to see?

Come to think of it, the "webcam" plug-in, if it supported not only JPEG, but also formats such as GIF and PNG, could be very useful for nearly infinite Internet-enabled data display on the home screen. I was thinking that it could also be used to show a graph of traffic on my web site, updated hourly. But that's just the beginning...

With the right software on the web server, (PHP, for example,) images could be dynamically generated to display nearly anything, in any layout - even dynamic layouts. It could even do the duty of the weather plug-in I mentioned, for example.

All you need is a home screen plug-in where you can define the location and size, transparency options, URL and update frequency, and you've got something damn powerful that could be used to Internet-enable almost any home screen in totally new ways, using only XML and some web scripting.

Here are a few ideas:

Realistic:
- scrolling list of appointments/upcoming appointments
- scrolling list of tasks
- news ticker (now that GPRS is a flat fee for us T-Mobileites in the US) :D
- Picture dialer function- a scrolling list of the 6 or 9 favorite contacts, via picture
- scrolling list of recent calls in/out/missed (very easy one-hand dialing)
Probably Unrealistic:
- Active content on the screen. Use XML to support live content via GSM (CSD) or GPRS, such as news, weather, sports, stocks, etc.
- Flash animation support on homepage
- NYDITOT-style app (rotates screen from portrait to landscape) not necessarily a homepage customization, but would help in displaying IE pages, docs, etc

RBROME: The LCD Plugin may be what you're looking for in a customizable clock. I know it has a LCD Font for digital time and and analog clock as well.

Also, you could use a shortcut that goes to a small webpage showing your webcam image...not exactly what you're looking for..but a start.

My plugin wish list (some repeated).
Scrollable appointments
Simple TaskList Plugin (10 Total - 3 High Priority -
Weather (doesnt have to be live all the time...just updated regularly)
News Scroller (doesnt have to be live all the time...just updated regularly)
Memory/Power Meters
VoiceNote Plugin (reminding you that there are voicenotes in a certain folder)

Funny to go back and see the progress of the fairly old thread. Many of the plugins requested are available today.

That only works if you have one of their products installed. However it is a nice plugin :)

Here (http://www.smartphinger.co.uk/SmartMonitor/) is another one. It's called SmartMonitor. :)

EDIT: Jason submitted this as frontpage news a day later so I thought I'd post a link to the article if you would like to read it. It can be found here. (http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=6588)
